European Affairs Minister Tuppurainen visits Warsaw

Minister for European Affairs Tytti Tuppurainen and Polish Minister for European Affairs Konrad Szymański

European Affairs Minister Tytti Tuppurainen will travel to Warsaw on Monday 24 January. She will meet her Polish counterpart, European Affairs Minister Konrad Szymański, as well as the head of the Polish national security office, State Secretary Paweł Soloch. Ministers will have a broad discussion on the current EU agenda and issues related to European security.

Ministers Tuppurainen and Szymański will discuss the EU’s target to cut emissions by 55% by 2030, the development of the single market, efforts to promote an open and rules-based trade policy, the Rule of law and ongoing work to develop crisis preparedness. Ministers Tuppurainen and Szymański are colleagues in the General Affairs Council of the EU, which prepares European Council meetings and regularly deals with issues related to the rule of law.

The topic of Minister Tuppurainen’s meeting with the Head of Poland’s National Security Office, State Secretary Paweł Soloch, will be the security situation in Europe. Items on the agenda will include the situation in Ukraine and Belarus and the development of EU-NATO cooperation. Ministers will also discuss the security situation in the Baltic Sea region and the progress made in developing the EU’s strategic compass. The strategic compass will determine the direction of EU security and defense cooperation and specify its objectives over the next 5 to 10 years.

“Poland is a key partner for Finland. A constructive dialogue between our two countries is timely and important. We share a common interest in the development of the EU single market, and Poland plays an important role in ensuring security in the Baltic Sea region. During the visit, we will also discuss issues related to the rule of law,” said Minister Tuppurainen.
