MINSK, July 1 (BelTA) — NATO expansion is its strategic mistake, reads a press statement by Anatoly Glaz, head of the Office of Information and Digital Diplomacy, press secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, published on the website of the Foreign Ministry, BelTA has learned.

“The position of the Republic of Belarus regarding NATO enlargement remains unchanged, regardless of the direction of this process: east, south or west. The enlargement of the Alliance of the North Atlantic, which ceased to be a defensive alliance after the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact, is a strategic mistake because it undermines the principle of indivisibility of security and leads to the emergence of new dividing lines on the European continent, to the increase in military-political tensions”, underlined Anatoly Glaz.

National, regional and global security must be strengthened not by increasing NATO’s military potential, but by bilateral and multilateral arms control mechanisms and confidence-building measures, by an equal and mutually respectful dialogue aimed at eliminate disagreements, reduce risks and prevent the growth of confrontation in the military field. “The Republic of Belarus remains open to such interaction,” underlined Anatoly Glaz.
