Mondaya global leader in sustainable packaging and paper, continues to make progress on its previously announced €125 million investment to expand and modernize its Kuopio plant in Finland with an expected start-up by 4Q 2023. Regional and local officials have joins the Mondi Group CEO and other senior executives at a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate this major upgrade of the semi-chemical fluting plant.
Andrew King, Mondi Group CEO, said: “Using the best available technology, production capacity will increase by 55,000 tonnes per year and product quality will be improved to better meet growing customer demand. The plant’s long-term sustainability will also be significantly improved, further cementing its place in the community.
The investment in Kuopio further improves Mondi’s local environmental performance and contributes to the Group’s ambitious plans for climate action as part of its MAP2030 sustainability commitments. Improving state-of-the-art equipment and processes will reduce noise and odor emissions as well as effluent emissions per unit of production. It will also help to mitigate wood losses during processing, increase energy efficiency and improve workplace safety.
