Russian and US foreign ministers could meet in Finland next week | News

Russian news agencies report that Sergei Lavrov and Anthony Blinken will likely discuss ongoing tensions in Finland or Switzerland.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov could meet in Finland to discuss the current conflict in Ukraine next week, according to Andrei KelinRussian Ambassador to the UK.

Kelin was quoted by Russian news agency Interfax as saying that Finland and Geneva, Switzerland, are seen as potential locations for the summit.

According to the Russian news agency Ria Novosti, the office of the Finnish president has confirmed that the country would be ready to host a meeting between the diplomats.

Blinken agreed to meet Lavrov on the condition that Russia not launch an attack on Ukraine.

Russia has massed troops on its border with Ukraine, raising fears of an imminent invasion.

Finland has repeatedly hosted meetings between American and Russian leaders. The 2018 Russia-US summit between the former US president donald trump and Russian President Vladimir Poutine took place in Helsinki.
